In Giappone Hokuto No Ken esce in manga nel 1983, e la versione animata viene trasmessa nel 1984. In Italia va in onda per la prima volta nel 1987 con il titolo di Ken il guerriero, e nel 1990 Granata Press pubblica il manga sulla rivista Zero, poi in albi monografici.
